QUEZON CITY – The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) on Wednesday held a symbolic event marking the conclusion of this year’s International Women’s Month.
DHSUD Secretary Eduardo Del Rosario, together with Undersecretary Marylin Pintor, spearheaded the closing ceremony at the Central Office board room. The activity has been pushed back a couple of times due to the re-imposition of the Enhanced Community Quarantine in the so-called “NCR Plus” bubble in line with government efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19.
In his message, the housing czar reiterated the pivotal role that women play not only in the housing sector, but also in nation-building.
“With the multi-year theme ‘We Make Change Happen for Women’ focusing on ‘Juana Laban sa Pandemya, Kaya!,’ the month-long celebration sought to promote the national advocacy on gender equality and women empowerment,” Secretary Del Rosario stressed.
“It likewise highlighted women’s participation in battling the COVID-19 pandemic. In line with the Department’s efforts in acknowledging women’s role in in our quest towards attaining overall national progress, the Department is proud to honor the women who have become pillars of the housing sector,” he noted.
One of the highlights of the closing ceremony was honoring two differently abled female DHSUD employees who had shown dedication and passion in delivering public service.
“DHSUD is also honored to give accolades to women who are differently abled and have truly become a living inspiration for all of us serving the public. Mabuhay kayo sa pananatiling matatag!” Secretary Del Rosario said.
For the whole of March, the department held a series of activities meant to inform and engage women stakeholders on government programs and services, as well as facilitate platforms promoting good practices, gaps, challenges and commitments in pursuing gender and development to become “agents of change” towards national progress.
Secretary Del Rosario likewise officially unveiled DHSUD’s Committee on Decorum and Investigation (CODI) in line with the department’s compliance to Civil Service Commission regulations.
The CODI, which will function both in DHSUD’s Central and Regional offices, was created to handle Sexual Harassment Cases as a proactive measure in preventing such acts. Headed by Assistant Secretary Avelino Tolentino III, the committee is also aimed at promoting appropriate employee decorum in the workplace.
It will primarily receive complaints of possible sexual harassment, investigate such cases and recommend proper disciplinary action against violators.
“The committee aims to further raise employees’ awareness on the downsides of sexual harassment and also serve as a reminder for all DHSUD employees that improper behavior towards others has no place in the department,” Secretary Del Rosario concluded. (30)-CVC
