“The results of our assessment shall then be the springboard of our plans and programs for next year,” he added.
The housing czar reiterated that DHSUD intends to focus on key thrusts this year – namely, the finalization of a 20-year comprehensive development of the housing and urban development sector, systems improvement, streamlined processes, empower clients and stakeholders and further enhancement of its core functions.
With regards to pursuing the 20-year housing roadmap, Secretary Del Rosario said such is vital to mainstreaming the department’s strategies to ensure effective implementation.
“Related to this, we must finalize and roll out our strategic plan for the department’s development as a government institution, which will ensure that we work and perform in unison towards a single direction,” he stated.
On improving DHSUD’s systems and processes, the housing czar emphasized the need to work towards the operationalization of the Housing One-stop Processing Centers in all of its regional offices to hasten the granting of permits and licenses.
Secretary Del Rosario likewise pushed for optimizing the use of information technology and develop a system for storing updated data for all housing projects, which according to him will help DHSUD track its progress better.
The DHSUD, according to the housing czar, also intends to further intensify engagements with all stakeholders, particularly in encouraging them to take a more active role in teaming up with local government units in the formulation of their respective comprehensive land use and shelter plans.
To further enhance the department’s core functions, Secretary Del Rosario stressed the need to explore other housing production modalities and speed up the rental housing program to cater to homebuyers’ and renters’ specific needs.
He disclosed that DHSUD is determined on implementing housing microfinance as a pro-poor housing finance strategy. “Lastly, we shall religiously monitor compliance with the balanced housing requirements, and partner with LGUs needing socialized or public housing assistance,” Secretary Del Rosario added.
The housing czar reminded DHSUD staff and personnel to always do their tasks and uphold the department’s goal of building inclusive and sustainable communities and human settlements nationwide.
